What PEGASUS OPTICS customers have to say! - Continued
I'm writing this letter to let you know just how pleased I am with the 20" (1.5" thickness) with 96" Focal Length mirror you made for me! Simply put it outperforms anything I've ever seen!! I had no idea this mirror would show the kind of planetary detail it does. I always thought the bigger the mirror, the softer the image would get, but this 20" mirror has a sharper, more defined image than my 6" F/15 [name brand] refractor! It also blows away my 8" F/15 Newt. When I looked at Vega I thought I was looking at a different star because it was such a small point; I mean smaller than any scope I've ever used.. even Sirius was incredibly small and sharp. The Veil Nebula shows sharp edges and knotting, twisted detail. Star clusters are incredibly resolved and seem 3-dimensional. One exceptionally steady night in late Sep. (93) Saturn was so sharp that I put in a 5mm Ortho which yielded 508X and the view surpassed anything I've ever seen (including the 22" Clark in Denver). Multiple ring divisions were visible as well as many subtle tones in the belts on the globe. Cassini's Division looked like a freeway around the rings, and I could see a knot or chunk in the rings which is the first time I've ever seen anything other than smoothness in the Rings. I never thought Saturn had any colors other than creme + shades of gray but it's impressive to see multiple shades of bluish-grey and almost smokey brownish-gray hints. Things just look more distinct in this scope. Surprisingly even on average nights the 20" has a better image with more detail visible than any of my other scopes. It is really easy to focus, it just snaps into sharpness and you don't have to wonder if you're focused, which makes it a lot easier to view through.

I've been an active telescope user since 1983 and have "sought" the ultimate scope for the entire time. Well, I can safely say the search is over! For the first time I feel the only limit to my views is the atmospheric conditions. When moments of good steadiness come by you just can't believe how sharp the images get...and in an F/5 system this is indeed impressive. I can't wait to see Jupiter through this scope, I'm sure it will be as spectacular as Saturn.

After owning a 13" Dob, I assumed I would need a mask for planetary viewing, but after using this mirror for over a month I can see a mask would only lessen the view. It's hard to describe what it's like to see Saturn's sharply-defined image at 350X and also see 8 or 9 moons like a hive of bees swarming around the planet, you just have to see it to believe it!....I never thought of the image in my 8" F/15 as being "dim" or that it lacked sharpness and detail...but in side-by-side tests the 20" always shows more detail and is always a better-sharper-easier-to-look-at image!!! I find myself squinting less and seeing more. Thanks again for the exacting job you did on this mirror. Colorado

Responding to your inquiry about the 18" F4.5 mirror you produced for us. The mirror tested exactly to the data furnished with the mirror, but the proof of the pudding is in the viewing. And the viewing is absolutely outstanding. The star test is excellent and many of the old timers with years of observing state that this is one of the best set of optics they have seen. Delivery ahead of schedule only makes the viewing a greater delight. Jupiter strikes are clearly defined and easily observed even to the untrained eye. Please find enclosed some photos of the completed scope. Again, thank you for an excellent mirror and for your immediate responses to any and all of the many questions I had along the way to completion. New York
